HYB: Birth Announcement

An interesting maiden bloom --

Standards: Iridescent Bishop's Violet -- that's BRIGHT, intense, near spectrum
violet, for those of you who don't have RHS charts. Held open & erect by strong
midribs (the most wind-resistent type). It has taken the wind well -- time will
tell whether it's also sunfast.

Falls: Deep Oxblood Red, with black beard and diffuse black signal -- and a
velvet texture that extends beyond the signal.

Style Arms: Golden Yellow, with wide violet streak along the midrib, and
greyed-violet crests.

Overall impression: bright enough I spotted it almost 100 feet away when I
drove through the gate this morning. So it passes the "car window" test. Has
the come-hither look needed to pass the "sidewalk test". And almost insists you
pull up a chair and study it's strange colors. Locally known as the "milkstool"
test.

No, I'm not naming it yet! It has to continue to perform well, AND pass the
growth characteristics test. But it's unusual enough to be newsworthy.
