Hi Rick, and Roger too,
Thanks for the info on cutworms. No, have never heard of them before
tonight and I will be taking a flashlight out to see if I can find any
of them. I just watered today and didn't see any damaged leaves but we
do have moths flying around. I don't know if I could find them. You
say to dig right next to the iris plant? Does one have to go around the
rhizome to find the critter. It's kind of scary! It's kind of like
finding a king snake in the garden. Is there any chemical one can put
around the plant to prevent these cutworms? Like slug and snail
bait?. I wonder what time they feed? Thanks again!
Tell Roger we did not expect to talk business May 3 when we visit your
garden. We just thought this might be a fun time to come as we are so
busy during the week and then usually have visitors on the weekends. Since we had our guest house built last year it seems we're very busy since moving from San Jose. We need to stay close to home when our irises
start to bloom and so the iris rustler of last year doesn't come back
this year. I will be paying close attention this year as to what is
blooming and how many. They might come when we are sleeping and if so
will find myself sleeping out on the porch.
I"m going out with the flashlight to look for cutworms.
