Re: TB:CULT:Hardiness

Hi All!

Patti Wenham suggests that hybridizers may have favorite parent stock that
is more specialized than is needed for a wide range of climates. This could
be a lot of the problem.

I've been keeping records for a few years now and HAVE noticed that I can
almost predict which irises I'll lose based on the hybridizer and the TYPE
of iris. Best example is Blyth: TB's are usually lost in their first year,
but the SDB's go wild.

Our biggest problem isn't just the wet. It's that the ground stays frozen
so long. Even with having sandy soil and planting on mounds, 3 to 4 feet of
snow melting on top of it can do some serious damage.

The spreadsheet sounds like a good idea.

Thanks,
Christy Hensler
