AIS funding/membership

After reading all the messages about declining AIS memberships across the country,
I was wondering if any thought has been given to doing a mailing appeal? The reason I even
ask is the company I work at does this. We do mailings for mainly non-profit organizations
like The Salvation Army's, Boys Ranches, etc. Do you think this might be something usable
for AIS? Have you ever thought about having a pledge program, where people would join and
promise to send in a set $$ amount each month or year with an incentive of perhaps different
iris plants or books or something for different amounts pledged? (I am not asking you to sign
up with our company, it just sort of hit me that this may be a new way to entice people to join
year after year)
Any comments on this idea?
