Rima, one of your comments caught my eye;
" leaf
eating seems to take place in the summer -- slugs?"
Do you get grasshoppers? I generally get them late in the summer, and they
can eat the leaves right down to the rhizome when they're bad. Luckily,
grasshopper populations vary from year to year (and in bad years I put out
lots of Nosema spore to make sure that stays true), and most years I can
tolerate the amount of damage they cause.
Barb, in Santa Fe, where I saw a small yellow butterfly the day before it
snowed. Poor stupid butterfly.
