The ideal pH for bearded iris is in the vicinity of 6.5, which is slightly
to the acid side of neutral (7.0), but higher than the natural soil pH in
almost any part of eastern North America. Therefore it is likely that you
should raise your pH some to make TBs happy, and certainly not do anything,
such as use an acid mulch, that would lower the pH any further.
