Re: CULT: a thought....

All this talk of the preffered growing conditions of each iris got me
thinking.......

I came into the possession of a start of Celebration Song (Schreiner) a
beautiful light apricot pink over lavender blue falls with an orange beard.
I planted it as I do any iris, with the rhisome on or above ground level
and soil mounded over it (helps drainage). It sulked. I loved the color so
much though that I included it in a new garden arranged in a rock and soil
terrace. It's location was 10" ABOVE the normal ground level. The first
year in the new location she bloomed like never before. The second year she
went wild, increasing and blooming like crazy.

I wonder if the terraced approach might work with some of these other
wet-sensitive varieties.

I use rocks to stabilize the soil in terraces, but the "strawberry mound"
kits might just work too.

Has anyone tried this?
