Well, I won't bore everyone with the very L O N G list of what we have
blooming now, but I will tell everyone that our SDBs (Standard Dwarfs)
are at peak bloom, and our ABs (arilbreds) will peak next week. We also
have quite a few IBs (Intermediates) in bloom now, plus several MTBs
(Miniature Talls) and BBs (Borders). Also quite a few of the early
talls and rebloomers are in bloom. Based on the average, I'd say we are
about 7-10 days ahead of schedule. But cooler weather (mid-60s) and
clouds are headed in for next week which could slow us down a little.
There are many on this list who are within driving distance of our
garden and for those planning a visit, if you want to see the SDBs and
arilbreds, NOW is the time!! Peak bloom on the entire field of 1,300
varieties (which is about 65% tall bearded) looks now to be the 3rd-4th
weeks of April, depending on MoNature.
We'd welcome a visit at ANY time, but please call (or e-mail) first if
you're coming outside our normal business hours of 10 AM to 5 PM
(Tuesday through Sunday)--we don't want to miss you. Plus the vicious
man-eating wolves we release in our field after closing time can get
quite nasty!! Just kidding!!
Favorites of THOSE IN BLOOM NOW are:
MDB--Bugsy (Hager 93)--bright with yellow S and red F rimmed yellow,
always in class
SDB--Being Busy (Hager 93)--very unique coloration in this class--this
has been talked about before on this list
IB--Bottled Sunshine (Nichols 95)--yellow S, white F, yellow edge;
EXTREMELY VIGOROUS--one of the strongest growers in our entire field!
Multitude of stalks and increases, has to be seen to be
believed--reblooms here also. Dykes Medal quality in our garden.
MTB--Lady Emma (F Jones 86)--thin wiry stems of yellow--much talked
about on this list already! Very dependable rebloomer, blooming with
IBs, we wonder why?
BB--Faux Pas (Keppel 90)--fancy plic in peach and rose; always one of
our best BBs, very popular and dependable here--always in class
AB--Silent Tears (Peterson 91)--the BATIK of arilbreds--light violet
splashed dark violet; always a good grower and our public never ceases
to stop and ooh and aah at it!
TB--Hot Chocolate (Ghio 95)--bright and bold--chocolate S and yellow F
banded and speckled chocolate--stunning!
HIST--Eleanor Roosevelt (IB) (Sass-McDade 33)--a classic favorite and
strong rebloomer; dark violet.
PCN--we don't grow many, but Canyon Snow (Emery 75)--incredible vigor
and clean white with yellow ray--takes our summer heat well under our
oak trees.
Sorry, no Spuria, Louisiana, Siberian, or Japanese in bloom yet. This
list changes almost every day as other favorites open and dominate their
respective class!
