CULT: naturalized TB?

I spent the weekend at the Chamberlin Hotel in Hampton, VA. While there I
took a walk around the grounds of Ft. Monroe (the hotel is actually
surrounded by the base out at the tip of Old Point Comfort, which has been
fortified since 1609). Aside from the great historical interest of the
fort, I noted that on the seaward side of the earthen berm protecting
Battery Parrott, a few very large clumps of a bearded iris were growing
naturalized in the grass. Buds were detectable down in the sheath.

I'm wondering if any of our members in the Hampton Roads area might be
interested in checking in about 2-3 weeks to see what this is. The clumps
were very robust and vigorous.

Battery Parrott is several hundred yards NNW of the Chamberlin and can be
reached via the bayside walk along a low sea wall. The battery has now
been converted into a kind of communications complex and there is an
antenna tower there. The irises are very obvious. Ft. Monroe is open to
the public and easily reached from a nearby exit on I64.
