Duane, you need not worry about introducing borer form NE growers since
spring shipped sibs etc. have virtually all of the soil removed at a
time in the borers life cycle when they are not yet hatching. People who
ship in spring but wait until the plants are 6 to 10 or more inches tall
are shipping plants that have been in the ground after borers have
potentially hatched, but since the plants don't do as well when shipped
that late, earlier dug plants are not at the same kind of risk. The
plants from Joe Pye Weed should be 99.999% free of borer and the
disclaimer, is, I feel, just a little note so people know. I have gotten
many plants from them in the spring and have never once found a borer or
even damage that could possibly be from one. A note to anyone who is
looking for siberians that are entirely different from anything you
already have, get the new intro 'Drops of Brandy". You will not be
disapointed!!
