Hi Griff,
My new beds have a similar composition, with sand included for
drainage. I use this mix in pots as well. The iris obviously love it and
new plants are establishing roots very quickly. I think that, in our dry
climate, the mushroom compost helps to hold moisture. I don't seem to
have a problem with rot, but would be wary of using this mix if i did.
Adding washed sand might help.

Annette, I got mine from 'Borderline garden supplies' in Castlemaine,
Australia, for $A28 a trailer load. (Not very helpful huh? - Sorry!)
