Another regional variable! There is a 'mushroom factory' about 5 miles
from here that makes it's own medium and sells both fresh (dry) and used
(wet) versions. The wet stuff sets up like concrete, but the dry is a
miracle mulch. They make theirs out of HUGE rows of stacks of piled up
fermented straw bales with various goodies added. I can't remember what
all they add, but neither soil nor manure are ingredients, and I doubt
they add peat (too expensive). Our 'factory' makes regular button
Agarics for the grocery stores (Monterey brand).
Linda Mann east Tennessee USA
with one of the last local pickup truck loads of mushroom compost before
the spring 'exclusive sale to garden outlets' starts. No more local
sales Mar 1 till mid-July.
