Merrily,
Terrible practice, mutilating books. I have hanging in my house two wonderful
water colors purchased in antique shop in North Carolina. One is irises, the
other daffodils. The prints are very old and filled with charm. They are
RIPPED from some botannical, English I think. The entire book was in this
shop with each illustration priced separately, unaffordable to buy all.
These prints cut from old books are on sale at most major flower shows, a
deplorable practice.
Last year in Boston,(at the New England Flower Show) the Mass. Hort. Soc.
displayed some of their very old and rare books - under glass. You must see
them in a room with an attendant.
I wonder if present day illustrations will ever have this value. Today's
books are published in such volume. And I seem to recall today's acid paper
will not store forever so perhaps Rima should buy two and enjoy the art.
