Well, in my opinion, the best thing to do is grow new ones every third year
from seeds and scrap the ratty old ones. Turn and amend the soil, drop in the
new plants in the fall, and there you have it.They are easy as pie from seed,
requiring no stratification and just a little moist medium and sun on their
little coats. Up in a couple of weeks, five fans by the end of the first
season, and blooms in the second year. Or so has been my experience.
