No, don't do it! Blue gums are mighty thirsty trees and will suck the
life blood out of the soil. Eucalypts also tend to exude something that
inhibits growth in other plants, although a neighbor grows a lush lawn
right up to the trunk. We have mostly grey box and stringy bark.
My mulch is made at the council tip and consists of shredded bark,
shredded branches and lawn clippings, hot composted in big heaps for
about 6 months.
I have a few old irises growing close to eucalypts and they are doing
poorly.
