Ian,
It appears that these are two separate groups. I checked the article
you mentioned, and it looks like a different group. So, I looked at the
Groups of the British Iris Society listing on page 112 of the 1997 BIS
Yearbook. It lists The Group for Beardless Iris and Species Group as being
two distinctly different groups.
To find out more about The Group for Beardless Irises, you can write
to the Editor, Sue Pierce, or the Treasurer/Membership Secretary, Philip
Allery at the respective addresses below.

The membership fees currently are about 2.50 Pounds per year, but are
probably going to have to increase.
This is a great group that anyone interested in Beardless Irises would
be welcome to join. Membership in BIS is not necessary to join this group.
