Thank you everyone for your response. I had a little trouble getting on =
to your list but the wait was worth it. The day I was added--I went =
into Iris-L La La Land. I tried to do everything. I visited Walter =
fantastic display. Entered John Jones Web Site . Visited the North Ms =
Lakes Iris Society Web page, perused the Woodland Iris Garden site etc =
Printed out the list of prize minatures besides reading all the =
messeges. I forget everything else and had a ball. How I wished that I =
had been on a computer when I started my Iris Fever about 18 years ago. =
My neighbor brought me one Iris plant and invited me to her garden. =
>From that I got the FEVER bad.
I live in the Mountains above Placerville and Pollock Pines which is =
on the main rd. to Tahoe. Our home is on top of a knoll facing west and =
at night I can see the lights of Sacramento. We have the most gorgeous =
sunsets. I have always maintained that I may not have the largest or =
prettiest Iris gardens but I have the one with the most spectular view =
around here.
Elevation is 3100" and we are in zone 7. We get a good breeze that =
seems to help us when there is frost. I have never had a frozen Iris. =
They have been covered with several feet of snow many times. Last year =
and again this year we have had so much rain. It seemed to affect the =
Iris making them bloom much later. Our peak bloom period in prior years =
was the first two weeks in May. They were much later last year and will =
be again this year. My daffodils that usually bloom in February are =
just now opening. Last year was also my first year after having dug and =
divided one half of my beds. Here the 2nd year is the best for new =
plantings but I usually always get some flowers with any that I ordered.
Recently I have been interested in Dwarf and Minature Iris. I tried =
the Japanese Iris but did not have good luck with them.
Some favorites are LACE JABOT, TOMORROW'S CHILD which I was sad to =
see was removed from the AIS list of favorites this year. I love BROWN =
LASSO which started my interest in the Dwarf varieties. Others include =
ROSE" , AMETHYST FLAME, FURLED FLAG, LORNA LEE (similar but prettier to =
me than Beverly Sills and much hardier here) MOON MISTRESS is usually =
my first one to bloom and blooms every year. ELEGANT FARMER and =
BLOOMING FOOL.
I am geting long winded so will sign off with a big THANK YOU TO =
ALL.
