For a couple of years I have used plastic mini
blind slats cut to a convenent length and a
number 2 pencil. The slats have enough "tooth"
to take pencil "lead" well. I write the same
info on both sides of the slat then stick it in
the ground by the plant. I orient the slat,
concave side down, due north and at about the
same angle as a sundial gnomen. This shades one
side all the time although I hve noticed no
difference from one side to the other.
One thing for sure, they are inexpensive and the
materials seem to be durable.
You might drill and wire lengths of plastic mini
blind slats and try them that way but I like my
stick in the ground version.
