I know that your initial request was for a labels was for an inexpensive
means, but I bought a Brother label making device, and used it for the first
time last summer, my labels haven't noticeably faded, and the adhesive is
still keeping them affixed to the metal markers.

I've tried these new "Sharpie" super-ultra permanent markers and they have
all faded on all my metal markers in one-year's time.  Only because I also
wrote the variety name on the back (shaded) side of the label do I still
know what I've got there.
