In a message dated 98-03-23 13:25:00 EST, you write:
<< I have used the P-touch labels for 3 years and (with one exception that
didn't stick) have had no problems. I have used them on metal labels and on
plastic. There has been no fading. And the "penmanship" is ever so much
more legible than mine! P-touch is what we used for the MASS Medley
convention.

Excellent information.
There must be about a thousand messages on labels in the archives. There is
probably the most complete label information worldwide in our archives. One
of the messages may be mine.
Learned by accident is the fact that underground messages last forever. This
will not be useful for visitors but for oneself try using vinyl siding. There
is a shade of siding (found in dumps or begged from any construction site)
called earth. You do not notice these markers as the summer foliage grows.
Any permanent marker can used by used. You cut the siding about 8 inches long
or longer (for us in the frozen north) and artistically cut a loop on the end.
You push the marker into the soil and can retrieve it by pulling up the loop.
I have seven year old markers looking fine.
I am more interested in the overall garden design than the filing cabinet
approach. I do not want signs and markers throughout the gardens.
