Re:HYB. Breeding for Older Form & the Market

Some great ideas, Walter...I'd buy those. Delving into our imaginations to
come up with ideas that become goals for future hyb. is the way to
go...that's how we got where we are now, isn't it? My trouble is when the
irises in my garden bloom and I'm out there "communing" with them, I
think, How can it GET any better than this?! So far, my poor
pollen-daubing efforts have been based largely on the serendipitous
anticipation method...You know, "Wonder what will happen if I put some
pollen on this one" I stand in awe of this discussion currently going on
and I'm promising myself to study it this summer. I have TWOI and several
other references...now if I only have the sense to comprehend it.
Uh...Walter, what were those flounced irises you mentioned, and where can I
get them? My "flounciest" irises are SPECIAL FEATURE and MESMERIZER. I
know there are those who are not impressed in the least by SAs but I abide
in that old adage, "variety is the spice of life"....and these guys are spicy!
