The Excelsior District is between the Mission District and Daly City. If
your friend is near a park, that would be McClaren Park (named after John
McClaren who was the head gardener/supervisor of Golden Gate Park for many
years). The Excelsior is foggier than the Mission and sunnier than Daly
City or the Sunset District. If your friend is indeed below the park, he
may be in a warm pocket. There are still some real estate deals and some
good sized lots out in that neighborhood. (By San Francisco standards...)
It may not be the Excelsior District if Market street detours around his
hill. That may be Twin Peaks.
Either way, tell your friend that we in the Bay Area wish him the best and
welcome!
(Also, tell him to watch out for the snails and slugs.)
