getting kids interest

Getting children interested in iris by there names is neat. I've been
asked when I got interested in gardening from time to time; what comes to
mind is when I was 5 or 6 my grandma had a row of annual flowers she would
let us all pick and make flower arrangements from. When we finished she
would judge all the arrangements declare us all winners and then we would
have a treat. It was great fun and kept us busy for awhile. She had a
long row of cannas, iris, daylillies, and crinum lilly along the backyard
fence. I don't ever remember touching them without permission. When she
moved out we where allowed to get starts of all our favorites though and
much to my moms dismay I went to the trouble of digging some crinium
lillies and some striped cane. Plantings of these plants and some of her
iris have made it from moms to here and several other places I've lived.
