When I was talking about differnt forms I didn't mean to go completly back
to the species look. There are some very distinct forms though. Flaring
form, heavly laced and or ruffled form, Space Age form, all falls form,
theres even a group that have a twist in the lower end of the fall (Praise
the Lord). Not everyone likes ruffles and lace. There are iris with full
rounded standards and falls that have good substance. There is something
for everyone. And for those of us who like variety there is plenty! There
is room to improve most groups or to get that form with the colors or
patterns , reblooming, vigor, the ability to be left in place and still
bloom and survive, lots of branching that dosn't promote flower distruction,
more buds for longer blooming period, strong stalks that can hold the
flowers up. I prefer pink, and plicata marked iris myself but others
prefer other things and I wouldn't want anyone to change. The pinkest iris
looks pinkest nest to something dark like Ravens Roost , Superstition, or
Lady Friend. Contrast brings out the best in us all.
