Peggy,
As someone who used to live in Kentucky, (since I know that is where
you are) I think I can help. Soak the rhizomes a few hours, then go ahead
and set them out. The spring rains will help rejuvenate them. When I
lived in Lexington, I planted some TB Irises at this time of the year, and
did not lose a single one. Once, a neighbor planted some out (in March)
that had been stored two years. They all lived. The next year they
bloomed.
Don't expect bloom this year, but you will get some the next.
