Re: AIS-Registration of Cultivars:Why, and Why Care?

And here's another post that will prove how far behind I am in the digest
reading.
About the value of official registration:
I find official registration of cultivars of any flower invaluable on a
very personal, practical level. I know, for example, that DITTO may bloom in
my warm winter climate because I know that Rick and Roger can grow it in their
climate which is very like mine. There may be other MDBs that look like it,
but chances are not good that they will bloom here. Having the exact cultivar
improves my chances of success.
Likewise, when I was buying rosemary, I wanted something with dark blue
flowers. The first plant I got from the nursery had the typical pale blue
flowers. But when I saw 'Tuscan Blue' labelled in a public planting, I was
able to get what I wanted for myself. So if anyone knows the name of the
bright yellow canna with the bright red speckles in the center....
