I just got into irising last year, and when I ordered my rhyzomes, I got
about 40 cultivars and, with the exception of "Before the Storm", I just
ordered one each.

I have limited space and I wanted to get as much genetic diversity as I
could because I had my mind set on hybridizing from Day 1. Additionally,
I ordered all sizes of bearded irises to have as extended a bloom season
as possible. To further extend the bloom, about 15%-20% of the cultivars
I ordered were rebloomers.
In some ways I regret ordering just onesies. Winter has not been kind to
my irises and many have undergone surgery to prevent rot from killing them
off. And so I'm forced to wait another year to see them bloom. Had I
ordered duplicates, I may not have been so unfortunate.
