Re: Re/CULT: Fallen Leaves/Bacteria

From: Mike00Rita@aol.com

Hi,
I don't know that bacteria goes to sleep in the winter, it might slow
down a bit, but there is bacteria in places like Antarctica and our
refrigerators so I would not rely on winter to solve that problem.
If you know there is a problem with a specific plant, then it seems
judicious to make sure clean up is done-or let it kill it's self and be done
with it.
As I grow many plants in a small area, after the leave have started to
show winter has arrived that's when I go out and tidy up, trimming the SIB and
JI plants. The bearded I basically just leave until signs of spring and my
curiosity to check to see how the plants faired over winter before I start
lifting the natural protection away.
That said, I had started lifting some of the mushy old leaves but not in
a big hurry as it is still in the 30's at night and the tender tips might need
protection a bit longer.
