I don't want to get in
any debate about the relative merits of "snap vs. cut", as I've never
been very good at getting them to snap properly. However, I have to say
that, though the reason behind snapping makes perfect sense to me, I have NEVER
had any rot come from my having cut off the stalks, and I've cut an awful lot of
them.
