CULT: fertilizer and crab grass preventer

From: "Dennis Kramb" <dkramb@tso.cin.ix.net>

My landlords were kind enough to have my back yard and flower beds treated
by a local lawn care company today. I called their office to find out what
had been put down. They said they applied a 19-3-5 fertilizer (pellet form
applied with a spreader) that has a crab-grass pre-emergent chemical
component to it. They said that it could prevent some wild flowers and
ornamental perennials from germinating.

I'm worried what this might do to my SIGNA iris seeds and wild flower seeds.
I'm also worried about the high nitrogen dose that my iris beds are going
to get. It's small yellow pellets, so I'm going to do my best to brush them
out of the flower beds.

The lawn care company said they will avoid the flower beds from now on, but
you'd think they'd be smart enough to do that in the first place! Oh this
is just another frustration that I really don't need.
