TB: G.P. Brown rebloomers - pedigrees

From: Linda Mann <lmann@icx.net>

For what it's worth: If I can decipher my handwriting, here's what I
found from tracing ancestry of the ~70 G.P.Brown intros that Mike Lowe
posted for me. Thanks, Mike, for adding the dates of intro - that
helped.

The two that Brown used most extensively are:

SEPTEMBER SPARKLER (from AUTUMN ELF, AUTUMN KING, and AMBROSIA ancestry)
AUTUMN ELF is (GERTRUDE X GRACCHUS) but the other 2 dead end in the
checklist.

AUTUMN SUNSET (ROSY WINGS X RAMESES). Parentage of both of these are in
some of the Dykes medal pedigrees on the HIPS website.

Others that showed up in several pedigrees, often crossed back to the
first two, were:

SALLY ANN (KALINGA X JELLOWAY).  KALINGA is (PURISSIMA X DOLLY MADISON);
JELLOWAY is [AFTERGLOW (pallida x variegata) X ?]

HALLOWEEN NIGHT (dead end in checklists)

FALL PRIMROSE (REDWYNE X red seedling). REDWYNE has lots of ancestors
listed in the checklists, including RAMESES & JERRY that show up in some
of the other Brown lines.

FAIRDAY (from MIOBELLE, MISTY ROSE, RED GLEAM, MARY VERNON ancestry)
Ancestry includes: SHERBERT [CATERINA (cypriana x pallida) X MRS HORACE
DARWIN], KING TUT (see HIPS page pedigrees), JANET BUTLER (MARY GEDDES X
CORONATION), BRUNO, SAN FRANCISCO. I mention these because they show up
here & there in other Brown pedigrees.

TINTED PORCELAIN (ALLUMEUSE X SNOW CARNIVAL).

seedling from MISSOURI X ?. If I can read my scribbly notes right, this
line wasn't used much - only shows up in HARVEST BLUE, FALL VIOLET, &
SUMMER BLUE.

DOUBLE DATE [(MISSOURI X GREAT LAKES) X SALLY ANN]

LUGANO [(ASTARTE X MEMNON) X SAN FRANCISCO]

MOUNT TIMP (OCTOBER OPERA X RED RAY)

RED RAY (RED SAILS X JERRY)

JERRY (BRUNO X BELLE PORTER)

This is a messy, slapdash glance at what seemed to show up a lot in the
pedigrees - since I don't grow any of them, I don't know if there are
differences in descendants either in response to rollercoaster winters
or deluge/drought summers.

hmmm - I see some others I didn't finish tracking - starting with AUTUMN
JANE. Looks like I quit when I got to the 60s - so what I've posted are
common ancestors to irises G.P.Brown introduced PRIOR to the early 60s.
That's about half of them.

Isn't this a lot of excitement for all you snowbound yankees?

sunny, windy, daffodils in full bloom still, one last I. reticulata open

leaves, one hardy early forsythia gradually opening without damage in
spite of nights in the low 20s.
