Re: AR: CELESTE AZUL

Dennis,

I cut the poor frozen thing (stalk looked like green jello in a thin
casing)
and peeled the bloom out. It was beautiful even in the flacid state when
I uncurled it. There were two buds. One not as mature, of course. The
color and veining were a delight. I'm awfully disappointed. There are
two more buds in fans, but I'm thinking they are damaged beyond any
hope. The second year it has frozen. Maybe next year? CELESTE
AZUL grows well for me as a plant. Now if I can just see it bloom.

And often the 3/4 bred have only two. McAllister told me this several
years
ago in re to one I'd bought as an aril and it had two blooms. I felt sure
it
was misnamed since it had two blooms and she confirmed it was probably
a 3/4 bred onco type.

I always look forward to hearing about your success with the arilbred
cultivars. I figure if you can grow one way up there, it should do well
for
me. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much info on the aril family
as cultivars. I wish more people would try them. What's a few failures if
you have a success here and there? The few I've managed to get bloom
have been something else. I'm quite driven to have some success and am
gradually adding to the numbers I grow. I have two pure arils now and so
far they are doing well, and even better than a couple of my arilbreds. If
in the end they don't make it, I will try again and adjust my growing
conditions. JUDEAN MAGIC, the hybrid aril Lowell mentioned on the
list, did well for a while, but then I lost it to rot. I intend to try
again.
