Enough of the snow has gone off the terrace to check and see how things made it through. I don't have a final score, but at this point MICE are definitely in the lead!
One entire row of Siberians wiped out! Nothing's left there! The soil looks like someone took a mixer to it. The rest of the Sibs look like they've been hit hard. If I.virginica and LAs EVER go dormant, there's a chance some will come through, otherwise I'm hoping they didn't find the other bed! Looks like one of the F1 Ensiberians got nailed too, but it still has some of the rhizomes left so I'm hoping it'll recover.
Mice do NOT particularly care for beardeds, I.psuedacorus, I.missouriensis, or JIs, so those haven't been touched. (Most of the JS were only nibbled, so I'm hoping it's the taste that doesn't agree with them.) Still don't know if I.setosa was on the menu or not.
My trap line is set, but does anyone know of a systemic that might work against mice over the winter? I can't use poison bait..... too many cats in the family.
