Randy, 
various pigments reflect and absorb different amounts of
UV Rays, resulting in different fade rates. Red, out of all pigments
fades the quickest, then colours with lots red in them (like orange
or warm yellow). For that reason, sign painters or manufacturers of 
outdoor signs tend to use red sparingly - especially if the sign is
going to be out in bright sunlight for a long time.
This all has some scientific textbook explanation, which I can't
remember at this time of night, and probably never will be able to
explain, even if I could.
You could still use the red and yellow tags if you could find them
with a UV protective coating - something I haven't seen in the stores
around here anyway.
