I already have the big rock garden - about a tenth of an acre...only I
call it the killing field for bearded irises. Reticulatas do fairly
well here, but I've not had any luck with most MDBs - too hot in the
summer? wrong cultivars?
Ellen G in Maine asked me to babysit a batch of IBs & SDBs for her while
she moved into her house - they arrived in less than good shape last
fall & I was not optimitistic about them, but so far, only two have
died, & the rest seem to be doing quite well. We'll see how the late
March early April inevitable killer freeze does.
I'm kind of thinking of TB pollen daubing on some good tough IBs,
historic or otherwise, if there are some that can handle this garden's
difficulties. Just for fun - helps keep the number of seedlings down.
