Kathy, I have not grown SHIRLEY M, (although I have it on order) but
BLUE CHIP PINK is highly regarded in this area...it grows well and
always gets a blue ribbon. It doesn't rot and it is very pretty when
backlit by the sun. It is one of the few iris that gets along well in
any location here, and even stands neglect while doing a very good job.
Perhaps you should give it a bit more time. Some things that I have had
here that took off growing like gang busters were the first to get
killed from a hard freeze the following spring. And some I thought for
sure would die the first year , hung on and thereafter were great. So,
you never can tell until three years in my garden, unless they die
immediately--then you know!
