Amy,

You found us before I could get back into e-mail and tell you how.
I am glad to see you found us.

> How do we divide these, and how often to they need done in the future?
The part you want to keep are the sections of rhizome that have
the green growing fans attached. These parts will have live roots on
them. The sections of the rhizome that have no roots are dead, and
should be discarded. Irises should be divided after being in place for
three years.

>I have three bags of these plants on my porch that I am assuming need
>something done with them fairly quickly. I would appreciate any advice
>I can get. The sooner you can plant them, the better off they will be.

> How should I plant the bulbs I have? The area I want them in has nice
>well draining soil, and full sun.

You have the perfect place for Iris. Set them at a depth so that
the top of the rhizome is at the soil surface, and water in well if it
does not rain.
