Re. CULT grass in irises

I think I have the same grass Kathy Guest is talking about and it loves
siberians, baby's breath and daylilies. I have had luck in the spring
carefully wrapping the "good" plant with newspaper and then using
roundup on the grass. Since the roundup goes to the roots it often gets
the grass all the way into the "good" plant. In order to do this one
must exercise enormous restraint and not pull the grass that's
accessable but leave it to be killed by the roundup.
I've read, and tried another way to keep from harming the "good" plants
and still use roundup and that is to cut the bottom out of a gallon
plastic water jug; put the jug over the area to be sprayed and then put
the spray nozzle into the top of the jug and spray away. I find you
then have to be careful in lifting and moving the jug that you don't
drip residual spray onto the plant you just tried to save......

"Today was my very first full day in the garden..... and, to my horror,
I
discovered some very nasty grass has invaded an iris bed. It's
spreading by
underground jet-propelled stolons and it has a full winter's head start.
