Bill, I agree that the BIS species book lists mackii (not maackii) as a
synonym of I. laevigata. I took the list from the SIGNA Checklist which
states that Zhao lists this as a separate species and makes the point
that it is yellow. I. laevigata is vary variable but, except for the
white form, it is always in the blue-red-purple-pink range. As I said,
I have not seen maackii but would love to have some seeds.
Ian, in Ottawa where foetidissima has overwintered in fine style and
suddenly all the plants seem to have died.
