Although BUFF BANNERS (Roy Fielding, R. 1953) was registered as a TB, it
had some onco heritage and would have qualified as an arilbred in the
mid-1950s. Coritica X Seedling part onco. S dull yellow, F clear white
with ¼" band of buff on edge and feathering at haft; beard deep yellow. It
qualified as an arilbred until the quantum requirement was adopted. ASI
Checklists show no record of introduction, but the timeline is such that it
could have been introduced during the period that cultivars had to be
recorded with the Aril Society to compete for awards. As those early
records were lost, we'll probably never know....
GAY STRIPES AB (Roy Fielding, R. 1957). From two unnamed oncobreds. Tell
identified the parents as "two one-fourth Onco-blooded Seedlings of C. G.
White's" but the '76 committee classified it as an OB in the quantum
system. Silvery blue-grey with blue stripes on standards and falls. This
one was widely distributed.
And.... A Fielding seedling that bore the nickname "Curly" was the pod
parent of Thornton Abell's JADE.
