Dear Jan, To plant yhour rebloomers together is good advice, I think. I am
also a water conservationist, but I also want to conserve my plants!
(Incidently, when there is a water crunch here and rationing goes into
effect, shrub and trees, especially trees, that have been planted less than 5
years are exempt frp, the ban and may be watered.
Now to get back to rebloomers: Years ago, I found it was more economical
from a water standpoint, but also saved a lot of time and effort to plant
rebloomers together and have a soaker hose - a hose that is laid out between
the rows, plants, etc and has holes that seep the water into the ground so
it isn't wasted in midair as a sprinkler. Thus it avoids watering the oncers
that don't need the excess and I trust to God to water them. I also use the
soaker hose for siberians (which I plant with/near/among) the rebloomers and
also for Japanese which are planted apart from everything else. The frist
time I grouped the rebloomers together I was struck with the fact they
bloomed a week earlier than the others, and the effect was fantastic! Then
a week or ten days AFTER they were over, the oncers began and the rebloomers
looked like disaster had struck! It was amazing! But it gives you a chance
to clear up that part of the garden while enjoying the others. "Try it,
