I have trouble telling what Mesmerizer's bloom season is, to
differentiate between prebloom, bloom, and rebloom.

A year and a half ago I planted 25 rhizomes in a mini-bed. The first
year was glorious. First bloom opened in early January. From early March
through mid-April its display was all you could ever ask of any iris bed
at its absolute peak.

This year things have been more spread out. First bloom was on Christmas
day. For the last 4 months there have been one or two dozen blooms open.
There are 22 spent stalks, 13 blooming, and 6 stalks up but not yet
blooming. I lost count, but there are some 60-70 fans that have not yet
sent up a stalk. This last number would seem low, if Mesmerizer were not
such a free bloomer. The total number of increases has been large, but
many of them have bloomed and gone.

Note: I am not claiming to be a great iris grower. I do claim to be
talking about a great iris, and most especially, one that loves my
micro-climate (and southern California in general, since it topped our
regional Symposium voting).
