I moved into my new house in September and was pleasantly surprised to find
irises growing in my back yard. I was surprised b/c I thought they needed
well drained areas and the areas that they are growing are not. Anyway, they
are starting to bloom and, although I do not know what species they are, I
was wondering if I should cut the flowers and how far down on the stalk
should I cut? Is it better to let them fall to the ground and wither there?
If the stalks are too heavy and start to fall, should I cut them even if
they did not bloom? And one final question: can I put mulch on top of them
to hinder the growth of unwanted plants / weeds and to beautify the flower
bed without hindering the irises growth?
thank you for your assisitance in advance.
