SHOW: Knoxville, TN, Results

The Knoxville show was held May 13 on the University of Tennessee campus
(Yes, Tennessee Vol did win a blue in the TB class).
John Couturier, Sunnyridge Gardens, dominated the section awards,
winning the sweepstakes and silver medal for the most blue ribbons: 14.
Section Results:
Best TB and Best of Show: Gypsy Romance, John Couturier
MTB: Sweet Charlotte, John Couturier
BB: Broadway Beauty, John Couturier
Species: I. pseudacorus bastardii, John Couturier
Siberian: Caesar's Brother, James Brooks
Best Seedling was 97-304 by Tom Parkhill, who also won the bronze medal
for the second most blue ribbons with 8.
It was my first judged show, and I was blown away to have a section
winner first time out. Of 14 entries I had 11 ribbons, including another
blue for Dusky Challenger, a flower I almost didn't take because I
figured there would be a half dozen of it there.
Most important to me though was the learning process. We were about a
week past peak bloom and grooming was more important than ever. I was
told I missed one other blue because I missed removing a spent bloom,
cleverly hiding under the fall of another bloom.
Congratulations to the Knoxville Society for attracting over 100
entries, and a real nice crowd of viewers, who were filing through the
Plant Sciences Building Auditorium right up until closing time.
It's a 100 mile drive for me, but spending two hours in a small car with
the heady aroma of 14 irises was its own reward, and I definitely plan
to be back next year.
