Climate in Norway, like dialects of Norwegian vary from city to city. Which
city does this lady live in? Stavanger might be a good bet. Trondheim I would
think not. My great aunt once wrote me from Trondheim: "We have a lovely
summer. It came July 10."
Christiansand might be a good bet, Oslo a likely no, Bergan I have not been to.
The thing is that some parts of the coast get input from the Gulf Stream and it
rains there most of the time, like Seattle. What my cousin calls: Juli-Januar
vaer, weather the same in July as in January. Who says Norwegians have no sense
of humor? A really good joke is to call somebody in Stavanger and ask, "Hey,
Ole, how's the weather there?" Get's a laugh every time.
By the way, the downtown (as opposed to the suburbs) Stavanger dialect of
Norwegian is incomprensible to many other Norwegians. Even Swedish is easier to
understand, and that is a hard admission for a Norski to make.
