It is not a good idea to cut healthy foliage back, but it is a good idea to
trim off diseased foliage. Cut the individual leaves back to the healthy
tissue but don't take more than you have to. Get the diseased foliage bagged
and off your property promptly. Don't compost it. If you are fighting spot
and will consider spraying to get on top of it, one product that is often
recommended is Daconil, assuming your problem is fungal leaf spot not
bacterial leaf spot, which is probably the case. The good news is that if
you can get on top of spot and keep it out of your garden for two years, it
will be gone unless you reintroduce it. So a two year plan may be in order,
starting with a good clean up and some spraying, and moving purposefully
toward the goal of a spot free, spray free, iris patch.
