Now that you're retired (!) a nice winter project would be tag making.  Years 
ago, I cut up clear plastic milk jugs into pieces about 1 &1/2 inches square, 
rounded the corners off, punched a hole in one corner with a hole punch and 
threaded about a foot of yarn through the hole and tied it.  Write a number 
on it.  Write corresponding number in note book.  These can be recycled for 
years.  Usually the yarn is the first to go, but sometimes the plastic will 
break down.  

I make about 150 of these and then through most away when I moved.
