If you "should never set seed on a first year plant, Best Bet might never be
a parent in California. It doesn't usually have much pollen out here, it is
a difficult podder, and it generally blooms out without increase. Actually,
I was under the impression that the name came from its (overrated)
hybridizing potential. I also have CeeCee; new for me this year, flower
looks almost identical but reduced haft markings. I have never followed
that first year advice, so I just duplicated my favorite Best Bet cross with
CeeCee. I can compare the results if it takes.

My two most promising crosses from this year involved a purple plicata
seedling of mine with Double Dribble and Laugh Lines (3 pods each). My
wildest cross was Gnu Blues x (a heavily veined luminata seedling with big
flounces).
