If I know where you were, Nick, I might be able to give better
advice. I have several pots of JI seedlings, which sprouted in March
and are up to about four inches now. Because it gets so hot here in
the summertime, I usually leave mine in the pots until it cools off
in September. By that time, the seedlings get up to eight to ten
inches tall. Keep them well-watered and they will grow very fast all
through October and November here after transplant. Many will bloom
the next spring. In cooler areas, I am sure you could unpot them and
line them out much earlier.
I prefer the 3-falled form and am currently amazed at the variation
in blooms of Springtime Snow x Hatsu Kagami. Hatsu can really
provide width and ruffles. I use SS because it is early to bloom,
which is a plus when you consider these are blooming in a lot of
heat.
