AIS: National Convention update

I visited a bunch of the tour gardens for the York
convention yesterday. The irises look good - the irises
made it through the winter in pretty good shape.
We have been having a drought, which has affected the
stalks a little - some are shorter than normal. The hot
spells followed by cold spells are confusing some of the
irises - they aren't sure when to bloom. In general, it was
peak IB season yesterday. Still some SDBs out, and some
early TBs and SIBs are out. There were a couple of LAs and
versatas out in one garden.
By tour time, most gardens should be at peak, with one
or two slightly behind.
I desperately need another bus captain for the
convention. Volunteers would get a nifty whistle, a busload
of irisarians at their beck and call, and my undying
gratitude. If interested, please e-mail me off-list at
